ELECTRICAL TECHNOLOGY (SKEU 3053)

This course aims to expose the students to the basic power system engineering. Students will learn the concepts and theory of magnetic systems, the single-phase and three-phase transformer. Students will also disclosed with the introduction and application of electrical machine which is direct current (d.c) machine and alternating current (a.c) machine.

The detail list of topics for this course are as followed:

TOPIC 1: MAGNETIC CIRCUIT

Part I - Basic principle of magnet, flux magnet, flux density, magnetic field intensity, Faraday's laws and Lenz's law.

Part II - Simple magnetic circuit: Series, Parallel, and Composite.

Part III - B-H curve: hysteresis and eddy current loss.

TOPIC 2: TRANSFORMER SYSTEM

Part I - Basic single phase transformer system: Construction, basic principle, and equivalent circuit.

Part II - Losses, transformer performance, voltage regulation, and efficiency.

Part III - Three phase transformer system: Construction, basic principle, classification, and equivalent circuit.

Part IV - Transformer system: Balanced Load - Analysis.

TOPIC 3: ELECTRICAL MACHINE

Part I - DC Machine: Principle of operation,classification, characteristic, and applications.

Part II - AC Machine: Principle of operation, classifications, characteristic, and applications.
