Abstract - A single or dual band reconfigurable metamaterial absorber with an added feature of switch-ability is presented. The structure can be configured to operate as absorber or as a reflector. It is constituted by a toppled “H” like shaped structure with four diamond shaped patches. Attached to the diamond shaped patches are copper switches (S1, S2, S3, S4, S5 & S6) which are used in selecting operational frequency and operational modes. The proposed structure demonstrated single or dual band operation mode reconfiguration. It resonated at 7.20GHz for single band and 7.20GHz and 11.20GHz for dual band. Furthermore, the added feature enabled the structure to operate as an AMC reflector at 11.20 GHz. An FR4 substrate was used and the incidence wave angles were varied from 0 0 to 60 0 . Simulation results showed peak absorption and reflection of 100% and 75% were achieved respectively. where as minimum absorption achieved was 94.20% at 11.20 GHz. The absorption mechanism and surface current were studied and reported.
