Abstract:

This paper focuses on the design of a slotted substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) antenna with metamaterial at Ka-band for millimeterwave applications. SIW structure is on interest at higher band due to its low loss properties. The advantage of this design is the enhancement of the bandwidth and twin-beam properties. The SIW antenna is designed with Roman number one (I) slot shape at Ka-band with bandwidth of 1 GHz. A metamaterial unit cell is implemented based on split ring resonator (SRR). The unit cells are integrated with the antenna next to the feeding line. The antenna is simulated and optimized using CST software. The antenna is well matched with return loss less than 10 dB and an impedance bandwidth 3.7 GHz are obtained. The overall dimension of the antenna is 28 mm × 10 mm × 0.406 mm. Twin-beam is observed with gain of 6.8 dB with efficiency of 96 %.
