2-MIMO antenna with Reconfigurable Polarization Capability
Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) system is one of promising candidate technology in the development of 5G technology. A number of studies developed on the concept of massive MIMO. MIMO concept is employed to improve the channel capacity of wireless communication without increasing of bandwidth and power. The varying depolarization on multipath propagation becomes a problem that degrades the Multiple Input Multiple output (MIMO) transmission to achieve high capacity. Decreasing in received signal strength due to polarization mismatch causes a decrease in MIMO capacity. This issue is important to be addressed, to ensure the increased capacity is comparable to the effort to increase the number of antenna elements that employed in MIMO. Antenna polarization adjustment capability is important to maintain the compatibility of polarization in a varied depolarization situation. The reconfigurable polarization method is potentially elaborated in developing MIMO antenna design. A suitable technique for adjusting the polarization of each antenna element in MIMO is necessary to be determined in realizing the reconfigurable capability. Mutual coupling has an effect on the channel capacity that can be achieved by implementing MIMO configuration. Adjusting the polarization of antenna elements in MIMO may causes the polarization between adjacent element on co-polarized condition, therefore causing mutual coupling to increase. This situation will be a challenge in developing a reconfigurable polarization technique for MIMO antenna system.
