2-Wireless Sensor Node with Long Range Detection using RFID
WIRELESS SENSOR NODE WITH LONG RANGE DETECTION USING RFID
Wireless sensor node (WSN) has been widely used in many areas, especially for surveillance and monitoring. WSN is a type of distributed system that comprises disperses variety of devices which use sensors to monitor physical or environmental conditions. WSN was originally intended to aid military operations, but these applications have expanded into several areas, including medical, industrial, tracking and home networks. Utilizing Raspberry Pi as a sensor node is the best choice since its processing power, memory capacity, connectivity, and multipurpose usage overpower other types of sensor node. It is powered by 1.2 GHz 64-bit quad-core ARMv8 CPU and 1 GB RAM. Tracking and locating people or devices for indoor monitoring is very important. One of the way to locate or tracking location is by using RFID systems. This project aims to develop an indoor monitoring system based on Ultra High Frequency (UHF) passive Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) with Raspberry Pi 3. An algorithm is designed to send the data obtained from the RFID reader over a wireless network and displays the results obtained from the reader on the monitoring center. The RFID reader is connected to the Raspberry Pi 3 through Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) and they act as one sensor. For long range of RFID detection an antenna array will be designed and developed. The antenna will be incorporated with the RFID reader. On the other hand, a compact transponder is designed as a wristband for easy wear and keep as well as to avoid being bulky. The material involved for this wristband is polydimethylsiloxane or PDMS, a form of silicone compound that is widely used for its flowy properties. The sistem intgeration will be tested and the signal strength will be measured and analyzed. The layout of the laboratory with the exact position of the sensors is captured and displayed on the monitoring center.
